  • Get in close. Instead of that bird in a tree at the end of the garden look at the bark of the tree the bird is perching on. Perhaps even a corner of the deck that you've been trying to avoid getting in your photo.
  • Spend some time to look around before shooting.
  • Get a feel for where you are before taking photographs
  • Take a photo a day.
  • Base your photos on a theme like water or a color or some particular object like rust or dew.
  • Remember that even a mediocre photo can often be salvaged with photo editing tools.
  • Practice taking lots of shots of the same subject from different angles.
